Minimally Invasive (Keyhole) Surgery

What is Minimally Invasive (Keyhole) Surgery?

Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is a surgical approach that uses small incisions on the body. Unlike traditional open surgery where larger incisions are made, MIS employs specialised tools. A miniature camera is inserted through the minor incisions in the body to access the surgical area. The camera provides an enlarged view of the surgical site on a monitor, enabling the surgeon to perform the procedure with exceptional precision and accuracy.

Compared to traditional open surgery, patients recovering from MIS usually experience reduced pain, lower risk of complications such as infection and bleeding, and faster recovery periods. Besides being adopted in gynaecological surgeries, MIS is also used in gastrointestinal, cardiac, orthopedic, and urological surgeries.
